What is Microfundo and why should you vote for us?

Microfundo ~ the New Mashup :: Music + Microfinance

Microfundo’s vision is to change the way the world funds music. Microfundo is making microfinance (a successful model that provides capital to micro-entrepreneurs from Bangladesh to Bolivia) available to working musicians around the world.

Through the power of social networking and a recent surge in the popularity of peer-to-peer microfunding, Microfundo is enabling music fans to “microfinance” the projects of emerging artists from both the developed and developing world.

Microfinance Works
To get the Microfundo website launched, we decided to do our own microfunding campaign with the goal of $2,500.  In 5 DAYS we raised 5,000!  Now we are in FIRST PLACE to win 50,000 and we are reaching out to YOU to ask you to vote for us.

YOUR VOTE COUNTS – right now the difference between the first and second place winner is only a few votes – and we want to stay out front!

How Microfundo will benefit Artists with the $50,000 Contest Prize
Microfundo will develop networks of similar international musicians and develop tools to collectively promote their work. This will solve one of the largest problems facing independent artists: how do musicians overcome the enormous effort involved in single-handedly engaging and growing their fan base? Microfundo will enable similar artists from different parts of the world to collectivize their fan base and form music tribal groups  ~ creating a participatory and vibrant music scene that includes diverse geographic locations.

How does it work?
Fans microfund an artist project on Microfundo’s social network (in micro-amounts of $10-$25), and will receive music in return, such as a download a copy (or signed CD) of a yet-to-be-produced recording, thus helping the world’s working musicians make great strides towards economic independence.
Artist Collectivity – An Example: Microfundo’s ‘Latin Divas’An artist collective of female vocalists could be formed from across the Americas. Each member would bring their 1,000 or so fans from Facebook, Twitter and Myspace. Artist members of the collective will share in cross promotion (such as re-tweeting on Twitter) and form a Microfundo online streaming radio channel. Once the ‘Latin Divas’ group size reaches 100 or more artists, there will be a collective base of more than 100,000 fans, which will make a significant impact and it will sustain individual artist projects and events.
