September 11th – Celebration of Life “Be-In”
On September 11th 2011 I produced the Celebration of Life “Be-In” as an alternative way for local artists and community to acknowledge, process and transcend, via ritual, the events of 911. While I am horrified by the tragedy and its aftermath which claimed many thousands of innocent lives and still impacts worldwide events – I think it is essential not only to mourn those who have been lost but to make a conscious choice to go on living, loving and celebrating life so we who envision a better world will have the strength and courage to actualize that vision. Imagine peace – work for justice! Continue reading

As the audience joined in the hand clapping, there came a point where we wondered if the song was going to end … but it went on and on and on … and, there came a moment where something shifted. The energy in the air changed – there was laughter – a transformation in group-consciousness. Continue reading

Grammy Culture War – Calling for NARAS Resignations & Boycotts!
May 22nd’s press conference at the Nuyorican Poets Café in NYC was energized by the presence of some of the world’s greatest musicians. Accusations of cultural genocide, ignorance, greed – and a plea to save the Grammy’s from itself – specifically, by recanting the recent action of the NARAS Board to eliminate 31 Grammy categories.
The eliminated categories include not only Latin Jazz, Native American, Zydeco and Polka – but approximately one third of American music. The panelists perceived the decision by NARAS to be racist, destructive, divisive and shortsighted. Continue reading
