Grammy Culture War – Calling for NARAS Resignations & Boycotts!
May 22nd’s press conference at the Nuyorican Poets Café in NYC was energized by the presence of some of the world’s greatest musicians. Accusations of cultural genocide, ignorance, greed – and a plea to save the Grammy’s from itself – specifically, by recanting the recent action of the NARAS Board to eliminate 31 Grammy categories.
The eliminated categories include not only Latin Jazz, Native American, Zydeco and Polka – but approximately one third of American music. The panelists perceived the decision by NARAS to be racist, destructive, divisive and shortsighted. Continue reading

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! The Spirit In the Mask
I feel a great sense of accomplishment today, as I’ve FINALLY finished my HAND CARVED MASK – the reason for my voyage from BROOKLYN NEW YORK, across the United States, and waaaay up NORTH to SITKA ALASAK, this beautiful little town of 8,600 people, nestled between the mountains. If you’ve been following my blog, you may remember that my vision for this MASK was inspired by a DREAM, (see posts dated August 28 & September 7), and that I’ve been studying, with the help of a Development Grant from Fractured Atlas, with MASTER TLINGIT WOOD CARVER TOMMY JOSEPH. That night, wanting to devote my work to my deepest inspiration, I decided to let my dream consciousness help me decide what to carve.
I set an intention before I go to sleep: I will dream my mask.
I wake up in the middle of the dark Alaskan night from a strong dream:
A strong handsome black man is standing outside of a building gazing up into a large picture window where two other BEAUTIFUL, NAKED, BLACK MEN ARE MAKING LOVE. Continue reading
